An Interview With The Legendary Carl Adams

This past week, I had the opportunity to interview the Legendary, Carl Adams, head wrestling coach at Boston University and former two-time NCAA national champion

and two-time world freestyle champion.

We talked about the importance of having a solid base of strength

in order to excel on the mat.  Carl commented that he didn’t lift in college as much as some of the guys on the famous Iowa State teams (3 NCAA team championships).

Carl was a pretty strong guy coming into college because of his “blue-collar” strength training, which he acquired from lots of lifting in various summer jobs.  That “blue-collar” strength of hoisting and carrying heavy boxes and loads throughout the week

enabled Carl to excel in “big-boy college wrestling”.

However, once Carl started competing on the world level, he realized that he needed to get a lot stronger.  A lot of the guys were pushing Carl around because of their strength

advantage.  That was something he wasn’t used to!  He admitted during our interview that he didn’t really appreciate the impact regular strength training made on wrestling performance until he reached the world level.

Today, with kids wrestling year-round and having the advantage of an abundance of outstanding coaches, camps and clinics to help them develop into great technicians; strength training becomes even more important.

You see, great strength can neutralize a lot of great technique.  As one of my friends, a national-level jiu-jitsu competitor tells me…”horsepower gives me a big advantage in every fight.”

That’s why we produced the Ultimate Grappler Strength Workouts DVD.  We wanted to give our wrestlers that “horsepower advantage” over the competition!   Getting stronger

makes you more explosive, more aggressive and more difficult to beat.  It’s that simple.

Ultimate Grappler Strength Workouts DVD

The Ultimate Grappler Strength Workouts DVD is loaded with the best free-weight exercises guaranteed to develop brute strength and wrestling-specific power, quickness and grip-strength.

That’s why this DVD has been endorsed by numerous former NCAA national champions, including the first-ever four-time NCAA individual champion, Pat Smith!
