YOUR ATTITUDE DETERMINES YOUR ALTITUDE

“If You Think You Can, You Will

If You Think You Can’t, You Won’t”

Performance enhancement tends to focus exclusively upon the physical aspects of training but psychological “conditioning” is equally as important for achieving athletic excellence.   How you consistently think will ultimately help you or hurt you in maximizing your wrestling success.

Your thoughts do influence your actions.  All great wrestlers will tell you first-hand how a positive “mindset” helped shape their behavior, and ultimately, success on the mat!  Your thoughts, feelings and attitude play a tremendous role in determining athletic success. Thoughts affect actions!  You must accept this fact and apply it if you’re ever going to become a championship-caliber wrestler.

Do a “mind check” today.   How many times do you catch yourself thinking a negative thought or making a negative comment?   It’s probably more than you would have imagined without the “mind check”!  You see, for the average person, it’s easier to be negative than to be positive and focus upon positive statements and behaviors.  If you don’t believe me, closely observe and listen to any group of people gathered together in conversation.  You’ll usually hear some cynicism, negativity and gossip.

Your challenge TODAY is to re-program your “mind-set” and only put good thoughts into your system.  We all have the ability to determine what we think and how we behave.  No one else controls your thoughts!   You are the creator, not the victim, of your attitude.  Remember the axiom, ‘If it’s to be, it’s up to me.”

Having a positive mental attitude, unfortunately, will not get the job done for you unless you also demonstrate what GrapplerStrength likes to call, “mind-power”.  Even when you change your thought process, replacing negativity and self-doubt with optimistic and positive feelings, nothing really great happens unless you commit yourself to TAKING ACTION.  “Mind Power” is all about taking action and doing whatever it takes to become a better wrestler day-in and day-out.  “Mind Power” is the action part of your positive mental attitude.

Without “mind power”, you’re just dreaming.  Write down a list of things that you need to actively focus upon this week in order to take your wrestling to a higher level.  Now start working hard to make those things a reality.  You see, “mind power” is all about developing the enthusiasm to work hard with a “game plan”.  Nothing in life is given to us or promised to us.  You must work for your accomplishments.

Good luck with the rest of your season.  Stay positive, take action on those positive thoughts and don’t allow setbacks or defeats to discourage you.  Remember, “Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe, and enthusiastically act upon…must inevitably come to pass.”
